Excitement over new Durban Cruise Terminal

Category Market News

We are excited that the construction of new Durban Cruise terminal will be starting soon...right on our office doorstep.

The R200 million project is being funded by Swiss based MSC Cruises, who are investing heavily in infrastructure as well as training in the cruise tourism sector in South Africa and Africa at large.

The terminal will also house the MSC Shosholoza Ocean Academy which will aim to train some 5 000 young people over the next five years to work on cruise ships. Once qualified, the students will be given an internship to work on MSC cruise liners in SA and around the world.

The cruise terminal will be a multi-user facility, meaning that while MSC will be the main user of the terminal, it can be used by other cruise line operators to Durban. The first phase of construction will be capable of handling about 4 000 passengers at a time.
